Decades later, man still deals with grief from Marshall plane crash

An injury forced Dennis Foley off the 1970 Marshall University football team. He missed the Nov. 1970 plane crash that killed 75 of his friends, teammates, coaches and members of the Huntington, W.Va., community. Nearly fifty years later, Foley granted us his first interview about that fateful night and the days, weeks and months that followed.

Santa portrayal bring magic to man's life

When I first saw Tim Etienne he was wearing corduroy overalls and walking in a mile long parade on one of the hottest days of the year. He was in his Santa Claus persona and made a point of shaking hands, waving and saying hello to every child along the crowded parade route. I decided there was something special about him, and I wanted to tell his story. A few months later I called him, and followed him and his wife, who portrays Mrs. Claus, for the last month before Christmas. Click here to see all of the entire story as it ran online, including the still photographs made and the story I wrote.

Horse paints way into woman's heart

Jessi Bash and Indigo were born on the same day 27 years ago. More than 20 years later they came into each other's lives and taught one another how to trust and love through riding and painting.

Buckeye Lake Polar Bear Plunge

On a frigid February afternoon two coworkers and I covered a polar bear plunge into Buckeye Lake. I was responsible for producing the video for the event and talked the reporter into doing the plunge while wearing a GoPro. I'm not sure if he's yet to forgive.

Sobriety Checkpoint

Who doesn't want to spend a weekend night hanging out with a bunch of police officers looking for impaired drivers?

This video was for an assignment from the Media Network of Central Ohio's enterprise desk (a group of reporters and editors who create content for the more than 100,000 print and online subscribers for 10 Gannett owned daily newspapers in Ohio).

I was asked to take photographs and videos for a package of stories about the impact of impaired driving and the effectiveness of Ohio's sobriety checkpoints.

Ewing Junior High School Rockets

I was driving to work when I saw students at Ewing Junior High playing with water propelled rockets in front of the school. Obviously my interest was peaked.

I stopped, went inside to talk to the dean of students, then back out to talk to the science teacher in charge and started taking video and photographs.

Flooding in Greenfield Township

While driving through Greenfield Township with a reporter trying to find flooding damage, we saw a family dragging items out of their house onto their lawn. We stopped and asked if the family had suffered from any flood damage overnight. The Cook's answered yes and offered to show us the basement of their two month-old home.

Ghost Flutes

I was given an assignment to photograph the annual Trade Faire in Lancaster, Ohio. The faire is a show that features reproductions and original items from the 1700s to the 1890s. It is aimed at historical reenactors and collectors.

While walking through the show I heard the haunting music that opens the clip. I had to find out more about the man making the music and, as I came to find out, the flute he was playing.

LEGging It Out with Patrick Sabol

LEGging it out was a limited run summer series in which Lancaster Eagle-Gazette sports reporters Blake Williams and Vince Nairn challenged some of the best local high school athletes to their own sport (or a variation thereof). I was the primary videographer, editor and director for the series.

This episode features the Eagle-Gazette's Blake Williams and Lancaster High School soccer star Patrick Sabol.
